Product work since 2007

Julien Fabre, Senior Product Manager and Product Owner

Senior Product Manager and Product Owner, from discovery to adoption.

For 19+ years I've turned complex, multi-team challenges in international environments into products people use, from a social intranet rolled out to 80,000 employees in 25 countries to Pernod Ricard's first report under the new EU sustainability law, shipped on a legal deadline. Pernod Ricard, TotalEnergies, AXA. Open to any industry.

From idea to working prototype with AI. From prototype to a product people actually use.

Ten cases, one method. Product management case studies

Different industries, users and constraints, and the same way of working: understand the need, align the teams, ship, then make it stick.

Energy, insurance, spirits & lifestyle, finance, sustainability, commercial, consumer web. Each case covers the problem, what I did and what changed.

Pernod Ricard, CSRD2024 – 2026

Role Product Owner (freelance)

Pernod Ricard: The first EU sustainability report (CSRD), on a legal deadline.

No precedent, and every entity in the Group in scope. As Product Owner, I scoped the product, prepared the call for tenders and brought business and tech teams together on 10+ data sources. I set data ownership for the sustainability domain and built quality checks into the product, so errors are fixed where they start.

Impact:Published on time, audited, and built to be rerun every year.

TotalEnergies, WAT (Working At Total)2013 – 2016

Role Product Manager, 15 consultants, €27m budget

TotalEnergies: A social intranet for 80,000 employees, live in 25 countries in under a year.

300 legacy intranets, no shared place to connect. I started with user and comms interviews, prepared the call for tenders and steered the integrator (Microsoft) on priorities, quality and performance. With local teams, I merged the 300 sites through one standard approach and designed the country-by-country launch playbook. Adoption was the success metric from day one.

Impact:One platform instead of 300, built around an enterprise social network, new at the time.

Operator using a tablet on an industrial site, Total Industrial Mobility (TIM)
TotalEnergies, TIM (Total Industrial Mobility)2016 – 2017

Role Product Manager, agile factory of 10, €5m budget

TotalEnergies: An apps factory, built from zero in under 3 months.

Operators on industrial sites had no mobile tools. I launched the programme as an intrapreneurial initiative and stood up an agile factory (10 consultants) to put tablets and smartphones in their hands, applying Lean methods. I set up the Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform and shipped the first apps, including MySafety: digital safety inspections replacing paper.

Impact:Safety inspections went from paper to tablets, site by site.

Pernod Ricard, MDH (Master Data Hub)2020 – 2022

Role Roll-out, Change & Adoption Lead (freelance)

Pernod Ricard: Getting 80 subsidiaries to speak the same language.

A shared reference product only works if it's used. I got 80 subsidiaries to use the same taxonomy for products, customers and entities in the Group's Master Data Management (MDM) tool, so their figures add up locally and at Group level. I rolled it out market by market, named data owners locally and globally, and tracked usage. It became the base for the Data Hubs.

80subsidiaries onboarded, market by market

Impact:With one taxonomy everywhere, figures add up with fewer manual reconciliations.

Pernod Ricard, Finance Data Convergence2025 – now

Role Product Owner (freelance), 10 business units, squad of 10 (data engineering, BI, data architecture)

Pernod Ricard: A Group finance dashboard, tailored to every market.

Every market had its own local reports. I ran discovery with finance teams, prioritised what mattered most, and am merging local reports into one Group dashboard. I chose to standardise first and customise second. Each dashboard is published as a data asset on the Group data platform, consistent with the business glossary; entities switch to it and decommission their old local ones.

DiscoveryHarmonised taxonomyAdoption
250users, 1,000+ views per month, 8 / 10 business units live

Impact:Fewer local reports to maintain, the same figures for everyone, local needs still covered.

Pernod Ricard, Data Hubs2022 – 2024

Role Product Owner (freelance)

Pernod Ricard: A reliable data layer for 10+ apps and dashboards.

Teams kept rebuilding the same data. I launched the first data hub for business and transactional data, agreed its place in the architecture with the data architects and standardised the integration patterns, then made it a repeatable recipe: finance, commercial, operations. Each hub started from what product teams needed, and ended when they used it.

Impact:Each new app or dashboard now plugs into data that already exists.

Pernod Ricard, VISTA (Revenue Growth Management) (RGM)2019 – 2020

Role Roll-out Lead (freelance)

Pernod Ricard, VISTA: Making promotions pay, market by market.

Promotions were often planned out of habit. VISTA shows which past promotions paid off. I set up its first version, the analysis of past promotions, and rolled it out to 15 pilot subsidiaries worldwide, with on-site training; their feedback shaped the next releases. The Group's teams later built machine-learning modules on top.

worldsbestbars.com homepage in 2018: Pernod Ricard's consumer guide to the world's best bars
Pernod Ricard, World's Best Bars2018 – 2020

Role Product Manager (freelance)

Pernod Ricard: A consumer platform for the world's best bars.

worldsbestbars.com helps travellers and locals find the best bars in the world: almost 8,000 bars in 200 cities. I owned and prioritised the platform and content roadmap, steered the agency in charge of editorial content and SEO, and shipped 360° virtual bar visits in the browser.

AXA, Disaster Recovery exercise2007 – 2012

Role IT Project Manager

AXA: Disaster recovery, tested for real on critical business applications.

I prepared, ran and debriefed a disaster-recovery exercise on critical business applications and their infrastructure: scenarios and runbooks, then a one-day test in real conditions, coordinating business, application and infrastructure teams and the communication around it, then wrote up the results and an action plan.

Side projects: RadioWidget, MyDay2025 – now

Role Solo Builder, Designer and Product Owner

Side projects: RadioWidget, MyDay and this site, prototyped with AI.

On my own initiative, I build small products end-to-end with AI-assisted development. RadioWidget streams my favourite stations and links each track to Shazam and to upcoming concert listings through their APIs.

Human-led, AI-boosted. Soft skills and AI-augmented work

Judgement, empathy and follow-through are mine.

Two people shaking hands: the human side of product work
  • PragmatismI ship the simple solution first, then improve it
  • Problem-solvingI look for the root cause and come with a proposal
  • Critical thinkingI ask for feedback and challenge assumptions, mine included
  • KindnessHonest about risks, kind to everyone. People who can speak up do better work
  • TogetherI bring the project team together, across countries
  • Extra milePerformance audits, user satisfaction surveys and quality checks before go-live

AI saves me hours every week, and I spend them with the teams.

Running shoe with AI written on the side, tilted like a running start: AI makes me faster
  • ResearchInterviews and desk research synthesised in a few hours
  • DraftsFirst versions of specs, user stories and mock-ups
  • PrototypesI built RadioWidget, MyDay and this site myself
  • AnalysisFaster reading of usage data and feedback
  • MeetingsNotes and action items in minutes
  • TestingTest cases suggested before each release

AI drafts, I decide.

Making AI work across a company is the hard part. AI adoption in the enterprise

Getting value from AI across an organisation takes more than the tools. It needs clean data, clear rules, working legacy systems and people on board. That is product work, the same as in every case above.

  1. DataAI is only as good as data that is up to date, structured, owned and reliable.
  2. Policies & AI governanceNamed owners and written standards, shared with the teams and the AI tools.
  3. Integration & legalLegacy systems, security, EU AI Act and GDPR, business processes.
  4. ScalingGoing live takes operations, support and training on top of the prototype.
  5. People & valueTrain the teams, grow champions, keep the use cases that pay off.
  6. Costs & dependencyUsage, costs and energy are tracked, and any vendor lock-in is a deliberate choice.
  7. GuardrailsHuman review, tests and monitoring, with clear accountability for every decision.

How I can helpFrame the right use cases, set the foundations, then steer from prototype to rollout, with the people who'll use it.
